Second Pregnancy Update (28 weeks!)

I forgot to do a 2nd Trimester Pregnancy Update so I'm doing it now even though we're technically into the 3rd! (If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know a lot of this stuff already--but here's the general overview of what's going on for my mama friends who have asked!)

How far along? 28 weeks -- almost 29

Maternity clothes? Ha! This week we had our first Birth Class and I wore one of the two pairs of regular jeans that had been fitting… I was so uncomfortable and realized it’s probably time to switch. So, I wore my first pair of maternity jeans yesterday! I still fit into a lot of my looser dresses, but maternity clothes are becoming more comfortable. I just wish there were more *cute* maternity clothes options. I am still working out in my Lululemon Align leggings or athletic shorts and one of just three black tanks that fit… Ha! It might be a monochromatic next 12 weeks!

Body Care: I’m using Mama Mio Tummy Oil RELIGIOUSLY (and have been since the moment I found out I was pregnant). I think it’s the same stuff Carire Underwood recommended to prevent stretch-marks?! I also put Almond Oil and Vitamin E oil everywhere because that’s apparently what they do in France to prevent stretch marks, and the French do pregnancy well. :-) (If you have a favorite body butter or oil, let me know?!)

Sleep: Still sleeping pretty well! I just use about 9,328 pillows. (I thought of getting one of those pregnancy pillows, but I’m super picky about the fluffiness of my pillows, so I decided to stay away…) I do go to bed SUPER early, but I also wake up between 5:30-6:30 most days. J

Best moment this week: Honestly, I finally feel like I look pregnant which has made everything feel more real this week. (I’m really tall and have a long torso, so for the longest time I felt like it looked like I ate a big lunch—but now I have this cute bump and I love it.)

Miss Anything? I miss being able to run more than 3 miles at a time! (I’m super thankful I can still jog, but I miss those long runs.) I also miss sushi and sashimi...

Movement? He is such a little ninja! He is especially active after I eat fruit. Smoothies, or gelato (because the sugar…!) and in the late afternoon. Feeling his movement is my favorite part of this whole journey!

Food cravings? I’m still not sure I believe that pregnancy cravings are any different than non-pregnancy cravings… Fruit ALWAYS sounds good (especially nectarines, oranges, and pineapple). Dark chocolate sounds pretty delish all the time, too. The biggest thing I noticed this week is just that my appetite has increased, but when I try to eat, I get full really quickly. I’m having a lot of snacks throughout the day. I definitely need protein with every single meal, so it’s been a lot of grassfed beef, salmon, and chicken these days.

Favorite Foods: Other than fruit, I love my eggs and avocado toast. (I probably eat a whole avocado every day...) I also like greek yogurt with nuts, chia seeds, and fresh fruit, and I've been loving fresh tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella. The other day, I made whole wheat naan pizza (sending the recipe out today to my email list!). The pizza took just 10 minutes and I topped it with kale, tomatoes, pesto, and mozzarella... it was SO GOOD! I can tell my body is enjoying getting foods that are higher in fat.

Anything making you queasy or sick? I’m still incredibly sensitive to smells. We went to a nice restaurant and some people at the table next to us were having French Onion Soup and I seriously thought it was urine/mold/mildew or a dying cat... we had to ask to be moved across the restaurant. Yikes!

Have you started to show yet? Yes, for real and I am loving this bump. (I find myself constantly touching it…is that normal?!)

Labor Signs? None! I had a couple of Braxton Hicks contractions last month, but my doctor said it was totally normal and probably because I was dehydrated (we were on vacation in a desert area).

Belly Button in or out? In... but we'll see what it's like by the end!

Most Thankful For? My husband… he has seriously been the most supportive! We went to birth class and he was taking copious amounts of notes. He’s been amazing about preparing dinner when I’ve been too tired. Family men are the best!

Wedding rings on or off? On! No swelling yet, Praise the Lord.

Moods? I feel mostly grateful, happy, and excited about meeting this little guy. I do have some moments of extreme sensitivity—thank goodness my husband is a saint. Obviously, there's also that big of anxiety about delivery, but I'm lucky to have a lot of friends who have delivered in every way imaginable. I'm trusting that God will guide us through the rest of this process.

Looking forward to? Our “final” babymoon! We’re heading up to BC over our anniversary to check out Vancouver and Victoria and I can’t wait! We have no major plans, so if you have suggestions please let me know!

Most Annoying thing someone has said? I was "mom shamed" for working out while pregnant by a random person who messaged me on Instagram… but then hundreds (literally) of women ended up telling me that my workouts and recipes inspired them to have healthier pregnancies, so I'm not letting the judgement affect me.

Aches/Pains/Issues? My back started feeling a little sore this week, just a dull pain—probably because I’ve been arching it to accommodate the growing bump. Hips are widening for sure (our bodies are so amazing that they know what to do…) and that makes jogging a little less comfortable. Otherwise, my primary issue is just feeling really tired in the late afternoon and evening. I’m trying to accommodate these things with lots of water, rest, and prenatal yoga.

Best Advice I’d Give Myself: If I could talk to myself in the first trimester, I’d say “keep up the workouts and healthy eating… you’ll be so thankful for them when you still feel good third trimester!” I’d also tell myself to relax; pregnancy isn’t as hard as I thought it would be—and it’s sooooo amazing to feel the sweet little baby growing inside.
