Favorite Books of the Moment

Friends who know me will tell you that I'm a bit of a nerd. While I'm super social and extroverted in group settings, I find so much joy in quiet time with a good book! In middle school I remember reading Chicken Soup for the Soul books with my grandma (no shame here) and in high school I slept with a Dictionary beside my bed (told you I was a nerd!).

In all seriousness though, reading has always been among my favorite passions... Sure, I have a collection of a 100+ cookbooks, but I'm all sorts of other books as well--from political commentaries to easygoing beach books and everything in between. It seems that whenever I read, there are takeaways that I can apply to my life, even if the takeaway is just a subtle change in my perspective.

Here are some of the books I’ve read in the last year or so. They aren’t listed by order of “favorite” and I didn’t include a description of all of them, but they’re all worth checking out.

On Being Present + Living Fully:

-Present over Perfect by Shauna Niequist is a great read for anyone wanting to slow down, unplug, and set boundaries with all of life's demands.

-The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown is one of my favorite books of all time because it breaks down the stigma around "imperfections" and empowers the reader to live vulnerably (and courageously). This book is SO good for perfectionists (like me)!

-The Best Yes by Lysa TerKeurst taught me to say 'yes' to the important things in life, and no to the things that compete for my attention.

-Captivating by John and Staci Eldredge

-GraceLaced by Ruth Chou Simons

-Savor by Shauna Niequist is a must!

-Come and Eat by Bri McKoy

-Your Beautiful Heart by Lauren Scruggs Kennedy

-The Bible (my all-time favorite book for wisdom, direction, and Truth)

On Marriage + Relationships:

-The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartian is one of my favorite books and I'd recommend it for all wives. If you want to see God move in your marriage, this book is an amazing resource.

-The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman

-Sacred Marriage by Gary Chapman

-The Meaning of Marriage by Timothy Keller

-Boundaries by Henry Cloud and John Townsend

-How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie is a classic, but so good!

On Society + Culture:

-Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance is a great portrayal of culture and class. It's not exactly a "beach read" but it's helpful in understanding certain divides and perspectives in the USA today

-Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

-I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou (possibly one of my favorite autobiographies of all time)

-Salt, Sugar, and Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us by Michael Moss

-In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan

On The Home:

-Love the Home You Have by Melissa Michaels

-The Nesting Place by Myquillyn Smith

-Living Well Spending Less by Ruth Soukup

-The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo

Lifestyle & Wellness:

-Pretty Happy: Healthy Ways to Love Your Body by Kate Hudson

-The Body Book by Cameron Diaz

-The Everyday Supermodel by Molly Sims

-The Honest Life by Jessica Alba
